Finishing Technical BulletinCommon FinishesAnodizing: Electrolytes are used to form anodic oxide coatings on aluminum. Thus, the microscopic pores in the coating are closed and the coating becomes resistant to further staining. Autophoretic: Autophoretic is a chemical rather than electrical deposition, allowing coverage on the most intricate of profiles. The coating process encompasses a chemical reaction to metal (ferrous) material. The Autophoretic finish coats fully assembled parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies of metal and other heat resistant materials. It looks like paint, but acts like armor. Black Zinc: Black Zinc is zinc plating with a layer of colored chromate. Black and yellow are the most common. E-Coat: E-Coat is ideally suited for outdoor applications. It is applied through an electroplating process followed by a thermal curing of the finish. Most common is black; however, it is available in a variety of colors. Hardcoat Anodizing: Hardcoat anodizing is an electro-chemical process of converting aluminum to aluminum oxide. This process allows the production of a thicker wear and corrosion resistant coating on a variety of aluminum alloys. These hard coatings allow the use of aluminum in many design applications restricted to steel. Noccotek Coating: Noccotek Coating is a solvent based, thin film rust preventative. It is designed to provide inter-operational and indoor storage protection to freshly machined ferrous metal. While the deposited film is practically invisible, it will afford indoor protection for several years. Powder Coat: Powder Coat is an electrostatic paint process followed by a thermal curing finish. This provides uniform coverage. Powder Coating is available in a variety of colors. Zinc Clear Chromate Plating: Zinc Clear Chromate
is a zinc electroplating process with a clear chromate. Corrosion Resistance
Corrosion resistance is related to the number of hours in a salt spray test. |
